RED HUSSAR ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

In 1995 Rhonda Babin Treaster (1966) and Debbie Bowling Verett (1976) circulated the idea of having a Hussar reunion, just to play together one last time.  On a cold January Day, in 1996, a group of women of all ages came together in a church parking lot.  The Corps was instantly reunited and they practiced every Saturday with the Hussar instruments that had remained in storage.

                Over 250 former Red Hussars joined together and lead the two mile 1996 Mardi Gras Parade down Proctor Street.  They were overwhelmed by their reception.  They marched through the cheers, with tears of joy, and knew that they were a part of something special they just couldnt let die.

                The Red Hussars Alumni Association was formally organized in the summer of 1996 with over 150 members from all over the region, state and nation.  The R.H.A.A. now participates in many worthy projects such as Childrens Miracle Network and the Cancer Relay for Life.  They maintain a scholarship fund for college freshmen, donate food and funds to families in need during the holiday season and annually sponsor a princess for Port Arthurs Cav-Oil-Cade.  The Alumni perform for residents of retirement homes, class reunions, the Nederland Christmas Parade, Cav-Oil-Cade and, of course, the Mardi Gras which gave the R.H.A.A. its beginning.

                The saying "Once a Hussar, Always a Hussar" continues to live in the hearts of the Alumni.  The pride of being a Hussar will live on in their hearts forever.  The sisterhood is alive and strong.

                The Red Hussar Alumni Association would like to proudly announce, "Here We Come.....Again" and the colors of red and white are here to stay!
